Although there are some formalities that come with certain clothing items and fabrics, like the tuxedo or pinstripe suit, there are certain ways re-tailoring those styles work visually for the modern man.
In the case of a velvet suit for example, we’re typically groomed to wear such fabrics during festive occasions and within certain dress codes. It doesn’t mean the suit cannot be utilized as a stand alone item. The stylist's responsibility is to gauge where it's apPropriate to wear it to.
When styling, the key is subtle contrasting. Being that the suit is already distinctive enough, I like to layer with items of clothing that will either contrast or blend in with the color scheme. In this look, I am wearing a chambray shirt with my collars up underneath my turtleneck. I find this styling detail a bit more thoughtful especially since it’s quite indistinct. Including elements of detail in any look that is almost unnoticeable until given a harder look is a skill.
While the coziness of the knitwear feels a bit more relaxed, it’s the addition of the white sneakers that finish off the casual essence of the look.
