If you’ve ever noticed a kind of duo tone pattern that is distinguished by four pointed shapes that look like broken checks, the correct name of the label is Houndstooth.
Like most suiting with any print or pattern, most deem a bit harder to style. The houndstooth suit is one of them. Fair, it’s a risky challenge but the key to success in this case is dependent on how noticeable the pattern in question is.
If you’ve ever noticed a kind of duo tone pattern that is distinguished by four pointed shapes that look like broken checks, the correct name of the label is Houndstooth. Since the beginning of time, the houndstooth pattern has been incorporated into clothing and widely today, furniture and various other creations.
If you own a houndstooth suit and are looking for more ways than one to make the most of its value, I’ve styled it in two ways that feel a bit more modern and functional.
STYLE OPTION I:
SEMI CASUAL
As stated in previous posts when it comes to suiting, I always result in styling with a turtleneck by default. Simply because, it feels a bit less corporate in consideration of my age and how I like to reference contemporary suiting.
Being that idea is that the look feels a bit more casual, it doesn’t read as such when settling on a two piece suit and a turtleneck hence the choice of adding in a clean white sneaker.
The idea of a suede puffer jacket comes in as a warm and cozy alternative to a long sleeve jacket or coat. Not only does it look cool and updated, it adds texture to the look especially when the metals on the jacket match the color scheme of the suit. As a personal touch, I wear with my lapels up.
A nice pair of sunglasses, timepiece or jewelry complimenting the color tones already incorporated seals the semi-casual deal.
STYLE OPTION II:
CLASSICALLY DAPPER
If you’re looking to keep the houndstooth suit a little more simplistic in styling with no layering, tossing the puffer jacket and switching out the white sneaker for a pair of leather loafers with a clean detail such as a buckle keeps things classically handsome and elegant.
I am wearing the horsebit loafers by Gucci. While these have a thicker rubber lug sole, more slender silhouetted options work as well.
